History of Schwinn Bicycles

Some SCHWINN Bicycle, Hybrid & E-bike PDF Manuals above the page.

Despite the fact that the American company Schwinn has a century of history, bicycles of this brand are poorly distributed in Europe, although in the USA Schwinn bicycles are still considered one of the national symbols of bicycle construction.

Schwinn was founded by Ignaz Schwinn and his partner Adolf Arnold on October 22, 1895 in Chicago.

Despite fierce competition (more than 300 bike shops, of which a third were in Chicago), Schwinn bicycles were rapidly gaining popularity among Americans.

In the first half of the twentieth century, Schwinn was able to develop and produce quality sports and road bicycles, which ensured its dominance in the American market for a very long time (from 1900 to 1980), however, with the advent of mountain bikes, Schwinn's position was shaken.

As for the Schwinn company, being late with the development of its own mountain bike model and losing this market to competitors, the company went bankrupt in 1993, although a year later it was able to partially restore its work.

Alas, for a relatively short time.

Seven years later, in 2001, another bankruptcy followed and the sale of the company to the major importer of bicycles Pacific Cycle.

Today, Schwinn is part of the large international corporation Dorel Industries, which also owns such famous brands as GT BycyclesMongoose and Roadmaster.

By and large, modern Schwinn bicycles do not have any qualities that distinguish them from competitors.

Schwinn are manufactured and assembled in Taiwan, and the development center is located in the USA, i.e. a bicycle from a purely American product became international. The consequences of globalization.
